BE ACCOUNTABLE

“Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God.” – Ephesians 5:21
On the 2nd of August, 2016 I went to the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Region 5 Camp in Port Harcourt to inquire of the Lord the genuineness of certain promptings I was receiving. I wanted to know what was the true intent of my heart over a particular decision I would make with regards to my calling. One of the questions the Lord asked me among others was, “Bodunde, what would it take to fulfil your calling?” The first thing I wrote was not vision, because it was already burning within me. I hardly struggle with that. But what I penned down first was Accountability. What does accountability mean?
The entire scripture is laced with accountability relationships. I often say that we are built to survive within the context of community. That’s why, no matter how wonderful a “Live Streaming Church” maybe, it cannot be substituted for the corporate church. It can serve as a make-shift, but not as the norm. Many of the basic functions of the local church cannot be done online. You cannot baptize online. You cannot effect discipline online, you cannot test your character development online, as growth in character is most realized when we can manage people of dissenting views. The list seems endless. It is no wonder that the trinity itself is an accountability relationship. Jesus said I do not do anything except that which I see my father do (John 5:19?). If we would do well in life, being accountable must be one of the very important skill-set to acquire. Anyone who avoids accountability is usually answerable to no one and that in itself is a recipe for disaster.
